A 26-year-old man who had previously been charged in connection with robberies and a murder, was shot dead in Albouystown this afternoon.

Dead is Collis Collison of Better Hope, East Coast Demerara and William Street, Kitty.

In an official statement, the Police said Collison was approached by another man who was brandishing a weapon. The man shot him and fled the scene.

However, other reports stated that he got involved in an argument and scuffle between two other men and one of the men whipped out a firearm and shot him to the upper body, before fleeing the scene.

He was rushed to the Georgetown Hospital, but Doctors pronounced him dead on arrival. A number of persons are being questioned about the incident.

Collison was well known to law enforcement.

In 2011, he was charged in connection with the murder of Linden businessman, Albert “Bolo” Joseph. He was freed of the charge in 2014 as the Judge upheld a no-case submission put forward by his Attorneys.

In 2011, he also faced a number of robbery charges but was freed of those charges also for lack of evidence.

He was also one of the inmates of the Camp Street prison who offered testimony during the Commission of Inquiry into the deadly prison fire and unrest.
