The number of deaths from the coronavirus in Guyana continues to climb steadily just like the number of new cases.

Within a 24-hour timeline, the Ministry of Health announced that Guyana had recorded four additional COVID-19 related deaths.

Three of those deaths occurred on Sunday with the other one being recorded late Saturday night.

The four deaths over the weekend have taken the total number of COVD-19 related deaths in the month of August to 19, making August the deadliest month since the first case of coronavirus was recorded in Guyana back in March.

Between March and the end of July, 20 COVID-19 related deaths were recorded. August alone has now claimed 19 lives.

The three patients who passed away on Sunday were all women with the youngest being 31-years-old.

Meanwhile, 50 new COVID-19 cases were recorded yesterday, taking the total number of active cases to 498 with 411 of those persons who are COVID-19 positive allowed to isolate at home.

The Ministry of Health has indicated that it is still facing a backlog of tests to be completed and 500 samples are to be sent today to the Caribbean Public Health Agency in Trinidad and Tobago for testing.

Those results are likely to be returned within 48 hours.
