The Guyana Civil Aviation Authority has rubbished a “fake memo” that has been making the rounds on social media claiming that American Airlines intends to discontinue its Guyana Service in August.

In a statement, the local aviation body said the information is false.  According to the GCAA, it made contact with the airline’s headquarters and it was indicated that the airline has not issued any such statement.

The GCAA in its statement also reminded the public that it is against the law to use the logo and brand of an entity without the written permission of the company.

American Airlines launched its Guyana service in 2018, but was forced to suspend its service in 2020 because of the COVID-19 pandemic and the closure of the local airport to schedule services.

The airline restarted its Guyana service last year.  There has been some concern expressed about the service as passengers complained about delays and overbooking of flights.
