Police investigators are probing the gunning down of a Coast Guard rank, who has been identified as 22-year-old, Kevon Payne.

He was shot dead execution style Tuesday evening, just outside his Sussex street, Charlestown home.

The incident occurred just after 9:00pm.

According to reports, Payne was standing at the entrance to his yard when two men on a CG motorcycle rode up and opened fire on him after starting an argument.

A police patrol which was reportedly in the area at the time, responded to the gunshots and police ranks got into a gunfire exchange with the suspected shooters who made their escape on their motorcycle.

The young man’s death has left his relatives completely shocked and asking more questions than they are being provided with answers.

Some relatives say that Payne had no known personal problem with anyone and they could not understand why someone would want him dead and would shoot him like that.

The young man who joined the Guyana Defence Force a few years ago, had not complained about any issue with anyone, according to relatives. Investigations are ongoing.

Just over a week ago, another Charlestown man was executed in his yard. That man, O’riley Small, had been fingered in a number of robberies. A Georgetown man has already been charged with his death.
