GGMC employee gunned down in drive by shooting

A mines officer attached to the Guyana Geology and Mines Commission was gunned down on Friday midday while driving along the four lane road in the Little Diamond area on the East Bank of Demerara.

The dead man has been identified as Trevor Abrams who is believed to be in his mid 20’s.

According to reports, Abrams was driving his grey Toyota Allion car along the roadway when another car pulled up alongside him and several shots were fired.  The young man was hit multiple times to his body and lost control of his car which ended up in the nearby trench.

The gunman made good his escape. Several persons rushed to pull the man’s body out of the canal. He was rushed to the Diamond Hospital where doctors pronounced him dead.

The incident has sent shock waves throughout the GGMC with many of the other mine officers saying they cannot figure out the reason for such an execution.

“This man ain’t no road man. He don’t be about any place, he is always very quiet and to himself and only recently bought that car after selling out his older car. This is confusing and hard to believe. He don’t have problems with anyone”, one GGMC officer told News Source.

It is believed that the man may have been followed by the gunman who reportedly had a driver. Police investigators are looking into the incident.
