Gold miner charged over theft of $2.2M worth of mining equipment

The Court heard that between the 1st April 2018 and the 2nd August, Mendonca allegedly stole a quantity of mining equipment valued at over $2.2 million, which were the property of Joseph Gonsalves.

36-year-old gold miner, Anderson Mendonca, of the Matthews Ridge area, was today slapped with a $2.2 M larceny charge.

The accused appeared before the Chief Magistrate and denied the allegation made against him.

The Court heard that between the 1st April 2018 and the 2nd August, Mendonca allegedly stole a quantity of mining equipment valued at over $2.2 million, which were the property of Joseph Gonsalves.

The Police Prosecutor made no objection to bail and the Magistrate granted bail in the sum of $150,000.

The accused will have to report to the Matthew’s Ridge Court for the continuation of the matter in November.
