Gold miner remanded to jail for murder after fight leads to death of Venezuelan friend

A gold miner will spend his Christmas behind bars after being slapped with a murder charge related to the death of a Venezuelan boat Captain.

Thirty-four year-old, Daniel Gaskin of Kuru Kururu, Linden-Soesdyke Highway, stood before the Chief Magistrate this morning and was not required to enter a plea to the indictable murder charge.

The Court heard that on the 8th December at Eteringbang Landing in Region Seven, Gaskin allegedly murdered Venezuelan boat captain, Owen William John because the man did not want to provide a financial loan to him.

On the day in question the two men also got into an altercation when the loan was refused.

Gaskin allegedly punched John to the face resulting in him falling to the ground and hitting his head. He was rushed to a hospital in the area but was pronounced dead on arrival.

The accused will make his next Court appearance in March of 2018.
