President Irfaan today announced that his administration will be pursuing several massive developmental projects in country geared at bolstering investments and interest in the country.

Among them is a new bridge across the Berbice River which the President envisioned will increase opportunities in all sectors for citizens. The Government is also preparing to begin a search for investors for an oil refinery in Guyana.

“We are looking at the launch of an expression of interest for a 30,000 barrel per day refinery, this expression of interest will be launched soon. We are looking at the auctioning of new oil blocks,” the President announced.

Up until the announcement today, government was still locked in discussion on whether to refine Guyana’s crude in a neighboring country with an oil refinery or to have its own refinery here.

It was also announced that a new bridge over the Berbice river is on the cards.

“You will see new expressions of interests coming out soon and we are asking investors across the world to participate fully. We mentioned already that we are examining a new bridge across the Berbice River that will allow continuous use of the Berbice River so that we can open opportunities throughout the river,” the President announced.

The Government is also looking to constcut a local oil refinery, the President said.

The Head-of-State said the stage is set, and at  the same time the government is advancing the training of persons to enhance the country’s human resource capacity to meet the needs that the new investments.
