The Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit is awaiting information from the Guyana Revenue on the images of the container that was packed with cocaine that left Guyana back in September and was busted in Belgium in October.

The GRA has been able to retrieve some of the deleted images, according to GRA Commissioner General, Godfrey Statia.

But the Head of CANU, James Singh told News Source on Wednesday that while he has been told that the GRA has been able to retrieve the deleted images from the hard drive of the scanner, the images are still to be shared with his agency.

An earlier probe had found that all of the images were deleted, but the GRA reportedly sought international help to retrieve the deleted images from the scanner’s hard drive.

The Customs Officers who were on duty at the time at the scanner were questioned by CANU but were released as more information was being sought.

News Source has learned that the officers have been sent home pending the outcome of the probe.

The cocaine bust in Belgium has caused a major embarrassment for Customs Officials since the scanner should have picked up the fake wall and the hundreds of packages of cocaine. 

The 11.5 tons of cocaine was found just after the container was offloaded in Belgium.  Officials there said it carries a value of more than US$1 Billion.
