Granger extends congratulations to new PNC Leader; Promises continued support and contributions to the party

Former Leader of the People’s National Congress Reform, David Granger extended congratulations this morning to his elected successor, Aubrey Norton.

Norton took over as Leader of the PNC Reform on Monday after dominating the party’s elections over the weekend, outshining his rivals Joe Harmon and Dr. Richard Vanwest- Charles.

In a statement this morning, Mr. Granger who served as party Leader for almost ten years said he is pleased with the groundwork which was set for the smooth and safe hosting of congress.

Mr. Granger was among several party members who had raised some concerns about the congress being held in the face of a global pandemic and had suggested that the event be postponed.

Mr. Granger has also pledged to continue contributing to the party, although he did not say in what capacity.

Mr. Norton has already appointed former PNC Chair, Volda Lawrence and his former rival for leadership Dr. Richard Vanwest- Charles as advisors to the PNC.

“The former Leader assured the new Leader of his continued contribution to the Party, of his commitment to the satisfactory conclusion of the Party’s reform process, of his support for the Party’s programme and, also, of his adherence to the Party’s principles,” Mr. Granger said.

During his final address to party delegates as Leader on Saturday, Mr. Granger who is currently in Cuba on a health visit, said members of the PNC Reform need to unite among themselves and change their attitudes.

He said the present decade demands their rededication to the people’s development and should not be allowed to become another period of personal rivalry.

The new leader, Aubrey Norton was moved to tears yesterday as he took the oath of office and shared his experiences in the political arena and in the PNC.

He has promised to return the party to the grassroots.
