Greenidge hold talks with Deputy US Secretary of State on upcoming elections in Guyana and situation in Venezuela

Foreign Minister Carl Greenidge is in the United States and yesterday he met and held discussions with the US Deputy Secretary of State John J. Sullivan.

According to the US State Department, the two leaders commended the strength of the U.S.-Guyana partnership, and Deputy Secretary Sullivan affirmed Guyana’s sovereign rights and jurisdiction within its Exclusive Economic Zone.

During the discussions, the two also spoke about preparations for Guyana’s upcoming national elections as well as the importance of U.S.-Guyana cooperation for Guyana’s safety and security in light of instability in neighboring Venezuela.

US President Donald Trump on Wednesday announced that the US will be recognising the Venezuelan Opposition Leader as the interim President, making it clear that it is not recognising the Nicolas Maduro Presidency.

Maduro has given US Diplomats 72 hours to leave the country.
