Gtown. Hospital A&E in Restricted Access after woman dies of suspected pneumonia; Coronavirus tests being done

The Georgetown Public Hospital’s Accident and Emergency unit went into a semi-lockdown with restricted access only this morning after a patient died from suspected pneumonia.

The death triggered tests for a coronavirus test after Doctors learnt that the woman had recently traveled from New York.

New York is currently under a state of emergency after confirming more than 150 cases of the coronavirus.

Sources at the Georgetown Hospital said the woman turned up at the A&E last evening with symptoms similar to pneumonia and she was incoherent.

She passed away early this morning and it was only when her relatives arrived that the medical team learnt that she had recently returned from a visit to New York.

Immediately, out of “an abundance of caution”, the hospital evacuated the Accident and Emergency Unit to allow only restricted access as they sanitized the area. Doctors and Nurses were ordered to put on protective gear and non-essential staff were also removed from the area.
