A 26-year-old Technician 11 attached to the Outside Plant Maintenance Department of the Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company lost his life on Monday afternoon while on the job in the Vryheid’s Lust area.
The dead man has been identified as Vijai Gaznabbi. He was reportedly electrocuted while carrying out maintenance work on a GT&T connection box on a utility pole.
In a statement expressing its sympathy to the man’s family, GT&T said that he joined the company in 2011.
“GT&T is awaiting a formal report on the incident. We take this opportunity to express our deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of Mr. Gaznabbi”, the company said in a brief statement.
