Gunmen rob Chinese restaurant owner in Berbice of $50,000 and two laptops

The incident occurred between 01:30 hrs and 01:45 hrs today. Investigations have so far revealed that the victim, who operates a Chinese Restaurant at the bottom flat of the two-storey building, was awakened by noises coming from the restaurant and upon checking, he was confronted by four masked men, one armed with a handgun and another with a cutlass.

Armed bandits early Monday morning invaded a Chinese Restaurant at Edinburgh, East Bank Berbice where they robbed the sole occupant and owner of cash and other valuables.

The Detectives in ‘B’ Division are investigating the report of robbery under arms committed on 33-year-old Chinese national, Lin Yu Qiang.

The incident occurred between 01:30 hrs and 01:45 hrs today. Investigations have so far revealed that the victim, who operates a Chinese Restaurant at the bottom flat of the two-storey building, was awakened by noises coming from the restaurant and upon checking, he was confronted by four masked men, one was armed with a handgun while another was armed with a cutlass.

They then demanded cash and valuables.

The sum of $50,000, two laptop computers and a phone were handed over to the men who also ransacked the premises and escaped but not before injuring the victim to the back of his head with the gun, during a struggle.

The police responded promptly but no arrests have yet been made. The victim was taken to New Amsterdam Public Hospital where he was treated and sent away. Investigations are ongoing.
