Guyana records 5 new cases of Coronavirus in 24hrs

The number of confirmed cases of the coronavirus in Guyana jumped to 29 last evening.

In a late-night statement, the Ministry of Public Health also reported that 110 persons have now been tested.  The total number of deaths remains at four.

Over the past week, 21 new cases have been recorded and that figure is worrying for health officials who are now advising citizens to wear a covering over their mouth and nose once they must venture out into the public.

The Public Health Ministry is asking citizens to stay home and with that national curfew in place, employers are being encouraged to have their workers work from home.

The Public Health Ministry is also warning again about social gatherings, reminding that more than 5 persons are not permitted to be in any one area together and citizens must follow the physical distancing rules and guidelines.

The Pan American Health Organization reported last week that Guyana could possibly see 20,000 cases of the coronavirus by early May.
