Guyana to institute vaccination requirement for overseas travelers

The Government will soon announce additional travel requirements for persons traveling to Guyana.

President Irfaan Ali today confirmed that among the new measures that will come on stream would be for all foreign travelers to Guyana to show proof of vaccination in addition to the currently required negative COVID-19 PCR test result.

In a draft of the new requirements seen by News Source, it states that all foreign travelers to Guyana must be fully vaccinated at least two weeks before their travel to Guyana.

The Ministry sees someone as being fully vaccinated in that context as someone who would have completed the course of vaccination two weeks before their travel.

Additionally, persons who were vaccinated with two different shots of a COVID-19 vaccine will be allowed entry as a fully vaccinated person.

Already Guyana has instituted a vaccination travel requirement for non-Guyanese nationals coming from Trinidad and Tobago.

The President said his government has been doing its best to tackle the virus. Guyana has recorded more than 22,000 cases of COVID-19 and 546 deaths in the past months.

The majority of new cases and deaths were recorded in the past four months alone.
