A team of business representatives from the Georgetown Chamber of Commerce and Industry will be heading to the United Kingdom as part of a business exchange that will focus on the oil and gas sector.

Fifteen companies have confirmed their participation.

The exchange is the second one to Aberdeen in Scotland, however, during the upcoming exchange, the participants will be attending the largest offshore energy conference in Europe.

At a press conference this morning, the British High Commissioner to Guyana, Gregg Quinn, said that as first oil approaches, forging ties with businesses and companies outside of Guyana will be a plus for this country.

The President of the Georgetown Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Nicholas Boyer said the Chamber is pleased to be part of the exchange programme. He noted that it represents a building of the relations between the two countries and their private sector groups.

Just recently, the UK based Tullow Oil company announced its first oil find offshore Guyana. Both the High Commissioner and the GCCI President welcomed the discovery and said systems must be in place to ensure the true benefits are realised.

The GCCI President said Guyana needs to continue moving to ensure all regulatory agencies are up and running effectively. He also said the Chamber believes that the business communities should be given a bigger role with some of those regulations.

A number of British investors have been looking at strengthening ties and doing more business in Guyana.
