A Guyanese cocaine swallower was on Wednesday sentenced to four years imprisonment and fined $2.5 million even as the Customs Anti Narcotics Unit (CANU) is continuing to investigate a St. Lucian man who was also busted with cocaine pellets at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport at the weekend.

Forty four-year -old Johan Joquin appeared in the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Fabayo Azore and entered a guilty plea when the charge was read to him.

He was intercepted at the CJIA on Sunday last while attempting to board a Caribbean Airlines flight to the United States.

After being questioned by CANU ranks, the Plaisance, East Coast Demerara resident and father of four was arrested and taken to the Woodlands Hospital where he underwent an x- ray which revealed the presence of foreign objects in his stomach.

Joquin was admitted and during Monday and Tuesday he passed a total of 75 pellets that were tested positive for cocaine.

The drugs amounted to 834 grams with a street value of $2.518 million.

He told the Court that he was summoned by his child mother and from time to time has been looking to find ways to support them.

Before Magistrate Azore handed down her sentence, he also promised to let this incident make him a better person.

Meanwhile, a St. Lucian national who was preparing to travel to London from Guyana on Saturday was also busted hours before Joquin at the airport by CANU agents with several cocaine pellets in his stomach.

CANA officials told News Source that investigations are still ongoing with him. He has excreted in excess of 40 cocaine pellets so far and is expected to be placed before the court later this week.
