Opposition Leader Joe Harmon has officially thrown his hat into the ring for the position of Leader of the People’s National Congress Reform.

Mr. Harmon will officially launch his campaign this evening. He has been meeting quietly behind the scenes with party groups in Guyana and the diaspora and reportedly decided to run for the leadership of the party after discussions with the current leader, former President David Granger.

Three years ago, Harmon campaigned for the position of Chairman of the party but lost to longtime party executive, Volda Lawrence. 

Ms. Lawrence has not yet indicated whether she will run for party Leader.  She recently stated that she will wait to see whether she is nominated for the position then make a decision at that time.

The PNC Elections and Congress are set for December with nomination day expected one month before in November.

Other party executives, Aubrey Norton and Dr. Richard Van West Charles are also running for leadership of the PNC Reform.

Member of Parliament, Senior Counsel Roysdale Forde is also considering a run for leadership of the party.

Incumbent party leader, David Granger has not made any announcement about whether he intends to run for Leader again, but sources close to him have indicated that it is unlikely that he will seek reelection.
