Herstelling man remanded to jail for drowning murder of ex-reputed wife

Three days after a Herstelling man was spotted by neighbours submerging his ex-reputed wife in a trench, he appeared in Court today charged with murdering the woman.

33-year-old, Daniel Watson appeared in the Courtroom of Magistrate Leron Dale this morning and was not required to enter a plea to the capital offence of murder.

The Court was told that on the 21st May, at Herstelling New Housing Scheme, Watson murdered his ex-reputed Lowtie Atwaroo called “Mona”.

The two shared a common-law relationship for several years, but the woman ended it just a few months ago and moved out of their home.

However on Monday, she was seen visiting the accused. Neighbours said moments later they heard loud screams for help and when they rushed out, Watson was spotted submerging the woman in the flooded drain outside his yard.

The neighbours rushed to the woman’s aid as the accused ran from the scene, but it was too late.  She was pronounced dead after being taken to a nearby hospital.

The Attorney representing the accused, Bernard DaSilva claimed in Court today that his client was severely beaten by investigative ranks into signing documents he did not understand. He has also requested a medical examination.

The accused was remanded to jail and the mater was put off until next week.
