Historian relieved of Suzuki vehicle in daring Camp Street car jacking

Historian relieved of Suzuki vehicle in daring Camp Street car jacking

Police investigators are probing the robbery of well-known Guyanese historian Tota Mangar.

Mr. Mangar was relieved of his Suzuki Escudo vehicle on Monday evening just after he was about to start the engine in frontĀ of the Moray House on Camp Street. The incident took place just after 8:00pm.

According to police investigators, the vehicle PMM 6392 was parked on Camp Street just in front of Moray house close to the corner of Quamina Street. Mangar had attended a programme at Moray house and had made his way into the vehicle when he was held at gunpoint by a man who demanded his keys.

Mangar told investigators that there was also another man in the back seat of the vehicle who was armed with a knife and pressed it to the back of his head as they demanded the keys.

Once the historian handed over his keys, the carjackers made good their escape. Mangar suffered a minor bruise to his face.

Police Crime Chief Wendell Blanhum today told News Source that investigators are still probing the incident and are hoping for a breakthrough.

News Source understands that the investigators intend to view CCTV footage from businesses near to where the carjacking took place.
