House-to-House Registration and Claims and Objections dominate Commissioners Meeting with new GECOM Chair

Chairman of the Guyana Elections Commission Justice Claudette Singh theld separate meetings today with the government and opposition nominated members of the Elections Commission.

This morning, she met with the Opposition nominated Commissioners and according to Commissioner Sase Gunraj, the Commissioners on his side raised many of the concerns that are already in the public domain.

He said the issue of the current house-to-house registration exercise was raised, in addition to the claims and objections exercise, which the PPP believes should be enough to cleanse the voters’ list.

The PPP has been boycotting the house-to-house registration, but despite that, over 70,000 persons have already been registered.

This afternoon, Justice Singh met with the Government nominated Commissioners.

Commissioner Vincent Alexander and Charles Corbin said they made it clear that a clean and sanitized list must be used for the elections and the best option for such a list is the house to house registration exercise that is ongoing.
