InterCaribbean Airways lands approval for Guyana service

Turks and Caicos registered regional airline, InterCaribbean Airways have been given the clearance from the Government of Guyana for the start of its schedule service to Guyana.

Minister of Public Works Juan Edghill, made the announcement on Monday. InterCaribbean Airways currently flies to 23 destinations across the region and it is hoped that it will be able to fill the void left by LIAT.

Its unclear when the airline will begin its official service since many Caribbean states still have travel restrictions in place.

Minister Edghill said a number of other applications for other carriers are currently being examined.

“There are applications for other airlines that we’re considering. We’re continuing the conversation with Virgin, which has to go to the next level. The next stage is a call between the CEO of Virgin Atlantic and myself, to see if we can get some accommodation on the way forward,” Mr. Edghill.

He also noted that with the expansion at the Cheddi Jagan Airport, he believes more airlines will be heading Guyana’s way.

The Government has also granted approval for Fly Allways of Suriname to operate schedule flights to Guyana.
