Opposition Leader Bharrat Jagdeo lashed out at the Government on the last day of the year, over its announcement to seek a review of the no-confidence motion vote by the Speaker of the National Assembly.

The Government has dispatched a legal brief to the Speaker asking him to review his acceptance of the no-confidence motion, since in the Government’s view, the vote did not represent a majority.

Today, Mr. Jagdeo fired off at the David Granger led administration over the move, accusing it of wanting to cling onto power.

Jagdeo said “they are clinging on to power using anything and if someone goes tomorrow and say Sunday is Monday, and it would help them to stave off going to elections, they will go to the Court or make that argument..this government has lost any moral now, any moral right to continue to govern this country”.

The Opposition Leader said he cannot understand how the Government could change its position on the passage of the motion within a week with some “ludicrous arguments”, adding that “they were trying to create this impression that they were democratic”.

The PPP has since said that it also intends to move to the Court to force the Government to accept the passage of the No Confidence motion and call elections within three months. Already, the Opposition Leader has said that his party will be boycotting the National Assembly unless it is addressing issues related to the hosting of elections.
