In a letter to Director General of the Ministry of the Presidency Joe Harmon, PPP Executive Member Gail Teixeira has indicated that the Opposition Leader Bharrat Jagdeo is ready to meet with the President on the appointment of a new Chairman of the Guyana Elections Commission.

In the letter, which was sent out to the media, Ms. Teixeira told Mr. Harmon that “Mr. Jagdeo is prepared to meet with the President at any time, and, on a daily basis if needs be, to address the appointment of a new Chairman of the Guyana Elections Commission consistent with the ruling of the Caribbean Court of Justice ruling on June 18, 2019”.

Teixeira also attached a section of the CCJ’s ruling that makes reference to how the CCJ believes the two leaders ought to come up with a GECOM appointment.

In that ruling, the CCJ said it believes the two leaders should meet and examine nominees for the position before a final list is submitted to the President for approval.

The letter to Mr. Harmon was sent this afternoon following the announcement by the President’s office that the Chairman of GECOM, Justice James Patterson had demitted office.
