Jagdeo says US Congressman Jeffries clearly misinformed about Guyana

After the government came under yet another stinging rebuke from top US Congressman Hackeem Jeffries over alleged acts of racism, Vice President Bharrat Jagdeo responded today and said the US Congressman is clearly misinformed on the situation in Guyana.

Over the weekend, Congressman Jeffries who chairs the Democratic Caucus for the US House of Representatives called out the Guyana Government over what he sees as the ‘mistreatment’ of a certain section of the Guyanese population.

But during his press conference today, Vice President Bharrat Jagdeo said the US Congressman needs to appraise himself of what is taking place in Guyana.

Mr. Jagdeo said the government will be working to ensure that the Congressman and others are given proper information about Guyana.

“I think these Congressmen don’t have time to really study what’s going on in these countries. So if he were to examine the facts about Guyana, his comments should be more directed to the PNC and APNU because they are the only racist party in Guyana”, Jagdeo claimed.

According to the Vice President, the Government will have to work more on better informing the international community.

“So we are hoping that we have an opportunity to present more facts..and so that is what we will work on we will keep working on these things we have had the same situation before, even with the elections, the entire world said the elections were rigged and he had a different view,” Jagdeo noted.

Last year, the US Congressman joined a Guyanese rally in New York and launched a blistering attack on the PPP government, calling the government out for alleged acts of racism.

The Government responded by saying it was disappointed that the Congressman had allowed himself to be negatively influenced by anti-government activists from Guyana.
