Jagdeo trying to get power by creating political confusion -Aubrey Norton

Executive Member of the People’s National Congress, Aubrey Norton, on Friday blasted the Opposition Leader Bharrat Jagdeo over his claims that the APNU+AFC government is illegal.

At his party’s weekly press conference at Congress Place, Mr. Norton said it is established that there is no illegal government and Jagdeo is making statements that cannot be supported.

He said “one understands the nature of the Opposition Leader. First of all, the Opposition Leader is in a place where he hopes to get power at all costs. The Government is clear in its head and it’s operating legally. The Elections Commission has jurisdiction over when elections are called and the minute the Elections Commission says to the President that we are prepared and ready and we have a credible list, there will be elections”, Mr. Norton said.

He said while one cannot stop the Opposition Leader from getting press coverage, it must be pointed out that much of what he has been saying is aimed at creating political confusion and using that to get into power.

Mr. Norton said the People’s National Congress Reform welcomes the decision by the Chief Justice about the house to house registration being legal and not setting a date for elections.

“The house-to-house registration is a legal process that permits the people of Guyana to register. It will ensure that there is a new credible list that will result in credible elections”, Norton declared.

He said the People’s National Congress is encouraging all Guyanese especially the nation’s young people, to ensure that they are registered.
