Jamaica busts over 100 pounds of cocaine in rice container from Guyana

Narcotics Police Detectives in Jamaica are working along with Guyana Customs Anti Narcotics Unit and the Customs Department of the Guyana Revenue Authority, to investigate the discovery of over 100 pounds of cocaine in a container that was shipped to Jamaica from Guyana.

Police investigators in Jamaica are reporting that the cocaine was discovered  in 48 parcels in a bag in the 20 foot container.

The Jamaican authorities informed local investigators about the bust and a probe has been launched in both countries.

The container with the shipment of rice was reportedly sealed after checks by Customs in Guyana. It is suspected that the bag with the cocaine packets may have been slipped into the container after those checks were made.

The Head of Guyana’s Customs Anti Narcotics Unit, James Singh, confirmed the joint investigation to News Source this morning. Singh said in Guyana both his unit and the Customs Department of the GRA are probing the shipment.

He would offer no other details.
