Jamaican Police investigators and drug enforcement agents have reported a major drug bust in the island with links to Guyana and Suriname.

According to Jamaican Police, officers attached to the Narcotics Division and members of the Contraband Enforcement Team (CET) of the Jamaica Custom Agency conducted an operation at the Kingston Freeport Terminal, Gordon Quay, Port Bustamante Wharf on Wednesday and found more than 165 pounds of cocaine.

The cocaine was found in four containers shipped from Guyana and Suriname. During a search of the containers, 56 parcels of the cocaine were found. The cocaine has an estimated street value of just over US$693,000.

According to the Jamaica Observer, two containers were shipped from Guyana each containing two travelling bags, one with thirty-one parcels of cocaine and the other with twelve parcels of cocaine. The other two containers were shipped from Suriname.

In the first one, two knapsacks were found to contain nine parcels of cocaine. In the second container, one knapsack was found with four parcels of cocaine.

On Friday, the  containers from Guyana showed anomalies in the refrigeration section upon scanning. The police say the section of the container was disassembled and a further ten parcels with cocaine was seized.

No one was arrested in connection with the find.

Just three weeks ago in Guyana, agents of the Customs Anti Narcotics Unit, made a major drug bust. They found more than 180 pounds of cocaines stashed in dug out timber pallets that were being prepared for export.  Fiver persons have since been charged in connection with that bust. Four of them appeared in court and were remanded, while the fifth man remains on the run.

One of those who was charged and remanded, just after the bust, traveled to Suriname then to Jamaica before returning to Guyana and surrendering to local law enforcement.
