Low cost US airline, Jet Blue, has approved a plan to begin scheduled service to Guyana.
Airline staff members were today informed about the decision by the company’s Chief Executive Officer.
According to reports, the airline intends to have dedicated aircraft for the Guyana service when it begins. The service is likely to be launched at the end of this year or early 2020.
The airline is likely to roll out scheduled services between New York and Georgetown with connections to its other destinations.
In late 2015, the airline’s Vice President met with the Guyana Foreign Minister during an informal meeting in the US and it was there that the official plan was first pitched.
Airline officials are expected to begin filing all the necessary documentation soon with the local Civil Aviation Authority to begin the process for the service.
Jet Blue started operations in 1999 and has quickly grown into a well recognised global name in the aviation sector.
