Kaieteur News joins list of companies to be granted radio license

The Guyana National Broadcasting Authority has added Kaieteur News to the list of companies to be granted radio broadcast license.

News Source understands that the licenses will likely be granted on December 18 to the Two Brothers company, Pinnacle Group, recording company, Brutal Group, Kaieteur News and television broadcaster, CN Sharma.

Some other companies that were being looked at to be granted licenses in the first batch may not be prepared at this stage to begin operations soon and therefore a decision was taken to grant licenses to those who are in a position to begin operations and broadcasting within months.

The licenses will form part of the first set to be issued under the updated Broadcasting Act. Reports indicate that other applicants are being looked at and will be considered for new licenses within months.

Veteran Talk Show host and social activist Mark Benschop has indicated that he is still interested in being granted a radio license.

Mr. Benschop, who operated an online radio station for several years, has written to the GNBA indicating his continued interest and asking that his application be looked at favourably.
