The Public Security Ministry today announced that it will be relaxing the 2am for bars and nightspots to close their doors, however, the noise nuisance laws will still be enforced.

The decision follows several requests from the business community and Guyanese who are home for the holidays.

In a statement, the Ministry noted that in Guyana, it is now a time for celebration during this season. The relaxation of the curfew will take effect from Friday and will end on January 7th.

The Ministry has made it clear also that the laws governing drunk driving will also be fully enforced as more traffic ranks and vehicle patrols are expected to take the streets in the next two weeks.

Party goers are being encouraged to always have a designated driver. Citizens are being asked to ensure everything is done in moderation.
