LIAT flight from Guyana experiences wheel failure

A LIAT flight from Guyana early on Monday morning experienced a main wheel failure during its take off to Barbados forcing emergency crews at the Grantley Adams International Airport in Barbados to be on stand by for the arrival of the flight.

According to a statement from LIAT, Flight LI 774 travelling from Guyana to Barbados on Monday morning, with 43 passengers on board, had a main wheel failure during takeoff.

The airline said the aircraft continued to the Grantley Adams International Airport where, as a precautionary measure, emergency services were on standby. “The landing was uneventful and the passengers disembarked at the gate in Barbados”, the statement concluded.

According to the company, the aircraft is being examined by the company’s maintenance department and will undergo the various checks stipulated by the manufacturer before it is returned to service. LIAT currently operates two daily flights between Guyana and Barbados. One of those flights operates out of the Ogle International Airport, while the other flight operates from the Cheddi Jagan International Airport.
