The Guyana Police Force is reporting the discovery of unlicensed firearms, ammunition and cannabis in the town of Linden and have arrested two residents during three separate searches over the last 24 hours.

One of the men was arrested with a quantity of ammunition and an unlicensed firearm, at his home early Wednesday morning.

The police did not identify the man, but said he is a 41-year-old Logger, who resides at Phase Two, Amelia’s Ward.

Acting on information, police ranks went to the logger’s home about 2 o’ clock this morning and conducted a search of the two –story building and a bond in the yard. During the search, they found an unlicensed.32 Magnum Taurus Pistol and twenty-five (25) live matching rounds hidden in separate locations.

He is currently being processed for Court.

Additionally, ranks of a police mobile patrol at 58 Miles Mabura, Upper Demerara River on Tuesday afternoon, stopped and searched a motor car and its occupants. One of the occupants who hails from Victory Valley, Linden, was found with a parcel containing 250 grams of cannabis, concealed on his person.

The 54 year old miner will be charged soon.

Additionally, ranks of ‘A’ Division are searching for two suspects who escaped from them yesterday, dropping their firearm in the process.

Later, ranks on a motor cycle conducting patrol on Vlissengen Road, observed the suspects proceeding in front of them on a CG Motor Cycle without the rear registration number plate and summoned them to stop but instead of so doing so, the pillion rider quickly took out a firearm from his waist and tossed it in the parapet and sped away.

The ranks promptly retrieved the weapon which was found to be a .380 pistol with five (5) live rounds and went in pursuit of the men but without success. The weapon and ammunition have since been lodged.
