Linden man tests positive for coronavirus

A resident of Linden from the Wisroc community has tested positive for the coronavirus.

The man was transferred to the Georgetown Hospital on Tuesday after visiting the Mackenzie Hospital with severe respiratory symptoms.

The Linden Hospital in a statement yesterday said all necessary precautions were taken in the treatment and transport of the patient even before it was confirmed that he had the coronavirus.

Acting Medical Superintendent of the Linden Hospital, Dr. Joseph London has indicated that the hospital has taken a more aggressive role in addressing several issues being raised by staff members.

“I personally met with several staff members and assured them of the hospital’s position and ability to address any issue that we are confronted with. We are following all standing operating procedures and the reality is that the man was transferred because he needed a much higher level of care and Georgetown will be handling that matter,” Dr. London said.

News Source understands that the information about the man’s positive result has been dispatched to health officials in Linden.

There are reports that efforts are now underway in Linden to figure out all of the contacts the man might have made before going to the hospital.

Linden was one of the first towns to institute a curfew in an effort to fight the coronavirus. The patient’s result would be the first positive case from the town of Linden.

Guyana has recorded more than 33 confirmed cases of the coronavirus with five of those cases resulting in death.
