LJP got no SoPs from PPP -Shuman

Leader of the Liberty and Justice Party Lenox Shuman today said the Statements of Poll that his party was using to verify the results of the elections came from some of its own agents and some of the partners on the joiner list.

The Liberty and Justice Party, The New Movement and A New and United Guyana signed a joiner agreement before the elections, which allows their overall votes to be added together.

Responding to questions raised by News Source, Mr. Shuman said “We don’t have the capacity to look at all the SoPs. We don’t have 2300 polling agents but we do have enough to at least verify in some parts of the country what’s contained in those SoPs.”

He added that in Region Four, his party relied on the other two parties, TNM and ANUG and some of the other parties that did not contest across the country.

“There is a reason we have a joiner list. It is so that we can utilise that…I am not in receipt of the PPP SoPs. I have not received SoPs from the PPP Civic”, Shuman noted.

There were 879 polling stations in Region Four meaning that 879 statements of poll were produced for those stations. The two major parties, the APNU+AFC and the PPP Civic were the only two parties with agents in almost every polling station.

The LJP is among the parties pressing for a full verification process to be completed of the Region Four votes before a final declaration of the results of the elections is made.

The matter is now before the Court.
