Major General (rtd.) Joe Singh resigns as Presidential Advisor

Retired Chief of Staff of the Guyana Defence Force, Major General Joe Singh, has indicated to the Government that he does not intend to seek a renewal of his contract as a Presidential Advisor and has given one month’s notice of his intention to terminate his contract. He has also indicated to the Government that he no longer wants to serve on any of the state boards.

Minister of State, Joe Harmon, confirmed the resignation to News Source and explained that Mr. Singh has given notice about not wanting his contract to be renewed as a Presidential Advisor and has also indicated that he will no longer want to serve on the state boards, which are voluntary.

Mr. Harmon said the President has not yet considered the resignations but will offer advise on the issue soon.

He explained that no reason was given for the resignations and under the terms of the contract, there is no need to offer any.

Major General (rtd) Singh has offered no comment on the issue.

He was one of the Opposition Leader nominees rejected by President David Granger for the Guyana Elections Commission Chairman job.

He once served as the Chairman of the Guyana Elections Commission but resigned from office just after the 2001 elections. He never offered a reason for that resignation.

He also once headed the Guyana Geology and Mines Commission but resigned from that post also in 2012, after gold miners expressed no confidence in him.
