Man takes own life after attempting to kill girlfriend

Police investigators are probing the death of a man who reportedly shot himself after attempting to kill his girlfriend.

The injured woman has been identified as Faith Thompson. The dead man has been identified as Daniel Hinckson of Parfait Harmonie.

The incident took place at the young woman’s Norton Street house just before noon.

The two were reportedly in a room of the house when shots were heard and the young woman was seen bolting from the room with a gunshot injury.

A neighbour said the two had a problem a few weeks ago and the woman was physically abused. Since then, the young man was seen visiting the house and always trying to reach out to the girlfriend. She reportedly welcomed him into the home this morning.

The woman’s uncle went to the house and after realising that it was locked with the two inside, he attempted to get his niece to open the door.

She did not open the door and moments later the gunshots were heard.

Shocked neighbours said although they realised the couple had problems, they never expected it to reach the stage of an attempted murder and suicide.
