Mayor Narine blasts City Engineer and Bad Management in City Departments

Mayor of Georgetown Ubraj Narine has lashed out at the City Engineer Colvern Venture over his alleged sloth in responding to correspondences and addresses major concerns in the capital city.

At a press conference this morning, the Georgetown Mayor responded to a report in the media that the City Engineer has refuted his statements at a City Council meeting about him not responding to concerns of the Mayor.

Mayor Narine said the City Engineer might have been responding to other persons but not to him and he needed to address his concerns since many of the concerns were issues facing citizens of Georgetown.

According to the Mayor, “Mr. Venture ought to know there is 100 things in the City that went wrong under his watch, there are more than 100 things and I can point them out”.

The Mayor said despite some of the challenges, the Council has been doing its best to address many of the issues that it is currently facing, but its work is being affected by bad management in the various departments of City Hall, including the Engineer’s Department.

Mayor Narine said the current Council is six months old and it has made some decisions that are beneficial to the city. Contracted garbage collectors have negotiated a reduced contract and the Mayor said all of the city’s pumps under the municipality’s control are working and that assisted in draining off the land following flooding in some areas as a result of heavy rainfall this past weekend.

The Mayor noted that there is need for better coordination and management at City Hall and all sides should understand that they need to work together.
