Medical Mission assists G/town Hospital in clearly long list of persons for joint replacement surgeries

The Georgetown Public Hospital has been able to significantly reduce a backlog of over 170 cases of persons who were in line for joint replacement surgeries.

The reduction is thanks to a team of 50 medical personnel from the Operation Walk Surgery Group, which has been traveling around the world conducting free surgeries for their patients. The group is based in the United States.

At a media briefing today, the Hospital’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) George Lewis, was grateful to the visiting team for all the help.

It was revealed that the hospital, which had conducted 43 joint replacement surgeries in the past four years, was able to have 47 surgeries completed in the past four days.

Joint replacement surgeries usually carry an average cost of $1.5 million. The surgeries that were conducted at the hospital with the visiting medical mission, were all done for free.

The visiting medical team is made up of more than fifty people, including nurses and doctors.

During the team’s visit, it was discovered that most of the patients were over the age of 50 and many of them had severe conditions.

Some team members are set to return in the next year, as they are expected to conduct follow up programmes with their patients.

With all the surgeries completed, the hospital has indicated that there were no complications in any of the cases.
