Men found with cocaine and illegal gun in mini-bus remanded to jail

Three men who were arrested earlier this week after more than 20 pounds of cocaine were found in a mini-bus, were remanded to jail today after cocaine trafficking charges were read to them.

The three were also charged in connection with the discovery of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition in the same mini-bus.

In Court today, the three men, 31-year-old Akeem Brummel, 46-year-old Gary Toney, and 28-year-old Oliton Sobers pleaded not guilty to the charges, but bail was refused.

Acting on a tip-off, CANU agents intercepted the Route 32 minibus at Tuschen on the East Bank of Essequibo.

The driver and two other men who were in the bus were arrested after the search by the CANU agents uncovered 11.4 kilograms of cocaine along with the weapon and ammunition.
