More beds added to COVID-ICU as surge continues; 10 new deaths recorded

The Ministry of Health today reported 10 more COVID-19 related deaths, pushing the total number of deaths recorded since the start of September to 44.

Of the ten most recent deaths, eight are from Region Four. The country’s death toll from the virus has now reached 669.

The Ministry of Health also recorded another 218 new COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours, pushing the number of active cases in the country closer to 3000.

The situation has health workers drained and stunned. At the Ocean View COVID-19 Hospital, more beds are being added to the facility as the nurses and doctors brace themselves for more hospitalizations.

There are currently over 90 COVID patients at the facility with 30 of them in the Intensive Care Unit.

The Ministry of Health today revealed that 10 additional beds have been added to the ICU to cater for more patients who might require intensive care while the other wards for the less serious patients are also being expanded.

The Ministry of Health is also looking to expand other facilities across the country to cater for the ongoing surge in new cases.
