The Government of Guyana has discovered that there are still several government-owned vehicles that are missing and others that were transferred to private hands just as the PPP Civic administration was getting ready to leave office.

Minister of State Joe Harmon on Thursday said the State Asset Recovery Unit which was recently set up will go after the vehicles and the apparent new owners.

Harmon’s announcement came even after eight vehicles that were transferred to private owners including the former Minister of Public Service, were returned to the Ministry of the Presidency.

The Minister of State said that when the government took office, it was realized that a number of state property had been removed and in the cases of the vehicles, were transferred to private owners.

He said the government has been bombarded with information and tips about the whereabouts of some of the state’s property.

“Every morning, you are getting reports about two vehicles gone somewhere, they take off the number plates and somebody throw canvas over it, but we will get to all of them.

He said just before the elections, 28 government vehicles were transferred to private hands and the government wants them all back.

Harmon said the new government wants to move forward with other issues and persons who have the vehicles and other state property in their possession should return them, otherwise “we’ll have to send people behind you, if you don’t” .
