More illegal guns and ammunition turned over to Police as amnesty period continues

In a statement last evening, the Guyana Police Force revealed that so far, over 7 illegal firearms including shotguns have been turned over to the police. Additionally, well over 1300 rounds of ammunition have also been turned over to the police.

The Guyana Police Force has reported that there continues to be success with the one month gun amnesty programme that is currently underway across the country.
In a statement last evening, the Guyana Police Force revealed that so far, over 7 illegal firearms including shotguns have been turned over to the police. Additionally, well over 1300 rounds of ammunition have also been turned over to the police.
The Police Force is reminding that persons can hand over illegal guns and ammunition to police stations across the country during this one month amnesty and have no questions asked.
Public Security Minister Khemraj Ramjattan has encouraged persons to take advantage of the amnesty because when it comes to an end on September 30th, persons found with illegal weapons will face the full force of the law.
Unto yesterday Monday September 07, 2015, the following firearms and ammunition have been handed in by citizens in response to the firearm amnesty.
  ‘A’ Division (Georgetown/East Bank Demerara)
 
1,191 rounds 7.62×51 ammunition.
Two (2) .22 pistols and three (3) magazines along with 55 rounds .22 ammunition.
One (1) shotgun with one (1) cartridge.
One (1) 9mm Luger pistol with nine (9) matching rounds.
One (1) .32 Walter pistol with one (1) magazine, along with 193 matching rounds.
 ‘D’ Division (West Demerara/East Bank Essequibo)
One (1) 9mm magazine.
Three (3) 16 gauge shotgun cartridges.
Three (3) 20 gauge shotgun cartridges.
