Mosquito invasion forces teachers and students to flee classrooms at Freeburg Secondary

Classes at the Freeburg Secondary School in Norton Street, Georgetown ended just as they were about to get underway today as teachers and students complained of an invasion of mosquitoes.

Teachers at the school told News Source that the situation has become unbearable for them and their students.

They explained that the problem has been “on and off” for years, but appears to have now worsened as there are now thousands of mosquitos taking over their classrooms.

The teachers said they would be willing to return to the classrooms if the problem is solved.

It is suspected that clogged drains around the school compound may be one of the factors that triggers the presence of the large amount of mosquitos at the school.

During a visit to the school by News Source, it was pointed out to us that the washroom facilities are no longer in use and have become a mosquito breeding ground also with stagnant water and insanitary conditions.

The teachers said they have tried to remedy the situation by taking their own insecticides to the classroom but the problem appears much bigger.

They have made complaints to the Education Ministry previously and they are now hoping for a response that will bring longterm relief.
