NCN Chairman confirms hiring of PR Consultant for CEO job

The state-owned National Communications Network (NCN) on Friday confirmed the appointment of Public Relations, Lennox Cornette, as its new Chief Executive Officer (CEO).

The announcement came in the form of a press statement through the private, Guyenterprise Advertising Agency.

Cornette will replace Molly Hassan and he will take up his position from May 1, 2016.

Hassan had tendered her resignation earlier this year.

News Source understands that the Board of NCN has asked Hassan to remain on the job for an additional month to ensure a smooth transition.

The PR Consultant was successful over veteran journalists and media managers, Enrico Woolford and Denis Chabrol, former Permanent Secretary, Indira Anandjit and Attorney at Law and  former Magistrate, Leslie Sobers.

The interviews for the top job was conducted by the Chairman, Bish Panday and Board Members, Kojo McPherson and Dr. Poloma Mohammed along with a private Human Resources consultant. There are reports that one member of the Board strongly argued against the hiring of the two veteran journalists who are also media managers.

Cornette who released a book on the Telecommunications Industry in Guyana last year, was among five applicants who were shortlisted for the top spot after applications were considered a few weeks ago.

He once worked at the Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company as a Public Relations Officer but had an unceremonious departure after the company decided to sever ties with him. That incident may have led to him having travel issues to two western countries.

A release signed by the Chairman of the Board, Bish Panday stated that Cornette emerged as the best candidate for the position based on his diverse communication, financial and executive management background.

According to the release, his work experience includes engagements with both the local and international private sector in the fields of Communication and Management. His last position was Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Jialing Forest Industries Inc, where he was in charge of Administration and Operations”.

Cornette holds a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from the Australian Institute of Business, a Bachelor’s in Social Sciences, (Majored in Mass Communications), a Diploma in Public Communication, and Certificates in Planning and Promotion from Bailbrook College, England.

News of the Cornette hire broke last weekend and the NCN Chairman remained silent on the issue while at least one Board member called around to media operatives in an effort to find out how the story became public.
