Ninety-eight new members of the Guyana Police Force were this afternoon hailed for their commitment in transforming themselves from ordinary civilians to Law Enforcement personnel after successfully completing several months of training as new recruits.

Training started last September with no women being part of the group.

Charged to uphold high moral and ethical standards, the ranks will be posted to different departments within the Force to serve and put into practice the training they received over the last few months.

At a passing out parade to signal their graduation from the Felix Austin Police College, Assistant Commissioner Nigel Hoppie told the ranks to ensure that their service is done with dignity and uprightness. “Be good examples for others who want to join the Force,” he said.

The new ranks were also told that that they are now entrusted with power and privilege that should not be abused.  Assistant Commissioner Hoppie congratulated them on the successful completion of “rigorous training.”

Several of the ranks were awarded for their outstanding performance during training, as they graduated with above average scores.

They completed training in self-defense, first aid, anger management, communication skills, human rights, domestic violence and teaching in crime and traffic control.
