Vickram Bharrat who hails from Diamond, East Bank Demerara has replaced PPP member Charles Ramson Jr. who recently resigned to take a scholarship in the United Kingdom.

A young People’s Progressive Party member and political activist was on Thursday sworn in as the newest Member of Parliament who will occupy a seat on the opposition benches.

Vickram Bharrat who hails from Diamond, East Bank Demerara has replaced PPP member Charles Ramson Jr. who recently resigned to take a scholarship in the United Kingdom.

The 36-year-old MP’s name was extracted from the PPP’s list of candidates at the 2015 General and Regional Elections.

The first person to offer congratulations after the Oath was administered was House Speaker, Dr. Barton Scotland. “I welcome Mr. Bharrat to the Assembly and I extend best wishes to him,” the Speaker said.

Bharrat holds a degree in Computer Science from the University of Guyana and also studied Public Management.

He served previously as the Chairman of the Grove/Diamond Neighbourhood Democratic Council.

Bharrat had campaigned with the PPP during the 2015 elections and spoke at several public rallies.

He is also a member of the PPP’s Central Executive Committee and has been a member of the party for almost two decades.
