No conclusive evidence cocaine in German bust was loaded in Guyana -says CANU

The Customs Anti Narcotics Unit has indicated that based on its investigations so far, it has found no conclusive evidence that points to the 1.5 tons of cocaine found in a Guyana shipment of rice being loaded here in Guyana.

The cocaine shipment was busted in Germany last week.

In its statement, CANU explained that the container with the cocaine was among twelve containers that left Guyana with rice for Poland. CANU said based on evidence provided, the containers were all scanned before leaving Guyana and nothing was detected.

The vessel left Guyana in late May and stopped in another country in early June where they were offloaded and stored in that country for seven days before being loaded on another container for the journey to Germany then finally to Poland.

According to CANU, once in Germany, the containers remained at the port facility there for several days before they were searched and the large cocaine bust unearthed.

CANU said it was also discovered that the newspaper clippings that were used to wrap the cocaine were from one of the countries where the shipment of rice was in-transit.

The drug enforcement agency said it will continue to be part of the international probe into the cocaine shipment.

A number of persons in Guyana including the shipper and GRA workers assisted in the probe.
