Despite reports that the Alliance for Change may be getting ready to walk away from its coalition partner, the APNU when the current Cummingsburg agreement expires, Opposition Leader Aubrey Norton today said the AFC has not informed APNU that it wants to leave.

During his weekly press conference, the Opposition Leader who is also the Chairman of the APNU said there have been cordial discussions between the two sides as recently as yesterday and no such position was put forward by the AFC.

“Until now the AFC has not said officially to us they are pulling out of any coalition, there are different elements in the AFC that are talking. As far as I know, we had a cordial meeting and we agree on some joint things,” Mr. Norton said today when asked about the AFC’s plan to leave the coalition.

The AFC has indicated that it wants to rebuild its image and can only do so, if it maintains it independence on the ground.

Mr. Norton admitted that there may be some issues between the coalition partners that need to be addressed.

“There will always be differences, the reason people come together in a coalition is that they represent different interests and as you represent different interests you will have different positions but there are positions on which you coalesce and organize to reach your objective, we are doing that but we don’t believe that there can be some unified, everyone follows the order like the PPP,” Norton posited.

In a statement on Monday evening, the Opposition Leader’s Office announced that the leaders of the APNU, the AFC, and the WPA met and decided to work closely together to address the various issues related to the Government. 

The WPA had walked away from the coalition just after the elections, citing a number of differences. However, the. WPA has still maintained good relations with the body.
